Can I use String for messaging but use my current number carrier for calling?

Splitting voice and messaging traffic

This completely depends on the type of carrier for your telephone number. Let's look at the different types of carriers:

• Cellular/Mobile carrier - If this is a mobile phone number, we cannot split the voice and messaging traffic. To use String, you will need to port your number to String and use our calling and messaging features. Please note that you will want to coordinate this with your mobile carrier to add a new number to your phone, if you don't want your mobile service and other key features like iMessage (for iPhones) disrupted.
• VoIP Providers - If your number is with a VoIP provider, we may be able to route just your messaging through String. Contact customer support and we can help you orchestrate this.
• Landline Carriers - Again, we may be able to route messaging for a landline number through String. Contact customer support and we can help.
